The Impressions had a string of hits in the 1960s, including songs like "People Get Ready," "Keep on Pushing," and "Amen." They were known for blending gospel and rhythm and blues influences in their music. Curtis Mayfield, who was the group's primary songwriter, went on to have a successful solo career after leaving the group in 1970.
