Artist Bio:
The Impressions were an American music group formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1958. The group initially consisted of members Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gooden, Fred Cash, and Arthur Brooks. They were known for their soulful harmonies and socially conscious lyrics, blending gospel and R&B influences in their music. The Impressions were pioneers of the Chicago soul sound and were influential in the development of soul music in the 1960s.
Their hits include songs like "People Get Ready," "Keep on Pushing," and "It's All Right," which became anthems of the civil rights movement. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003. Curtis Mayfield eventually left the group to pursue a successful solo career, but The Impressions continued to record and perform with various lineup changes over the years.
