The Impressions are an American music group that originated in Chicago, Illinois in 1958. The group was originally formed as a doo-wop group called The Roosters, but changed their name to The Impressions in 1958. The group was founded by lead singer Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield, who was also a songwriter and guitarist for the group.


The Impressions are known for their smooth harmonies and socially conscious lyrics, often addressing issues such as civil rights and social justice. Some of their most popular songs include "People Get Ready," "Keep On Pushing," and "Amen." The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, recognizing their influence and impact on soul and R&B music.
