The Main Ingredient was an American soul and R&B group formed in Harlem, New York in 1964. The original members were lead singer Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons Jr., and Tony Silvester. The group's biggest success came in the early 1970s with hits like "Everybody Plays the Fool" and "Just Don't Want to Be Lonely."
After McPherson's untimely death in 1971, Cuba Gooding Sr. joined the group as the lead singer, and they continued to release successful albums and singles throughout the 1970s. The Main Ingredient's music is characterized by smooth harmonies, soulful vocals, and catchy melodies. The group continued to perform and record music until the early 2000s, solidifying their legacy as a prominent act in the soul and R&B music scene.
