The Main Ingredient was an American soul and R&B group formed in Harlem, New York in 1964. The original members were lead singer Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons Jr., and Tony Silvester. They are best known for their hit songs "Everybody Plays the Fool" and "Just Don't Want to Be Lonely." Their music was characterized by soulful harmonies and smooth vocals, making them a popular group in the 1970s.


The Main Ingredient released several albums throughout their career, with their most successful being "Euphrates River" in 1974. They continued to make music and perform together until the late 1990s. The group's music has been sampled by many hip-hop artists, further solidifying their influence on the music industry.
