The Manhattans are an American R&B vocal group formed in 1962 in Jersey City, New Jersey. The original members were George "Smitty" Smith, Edward "Sonny" Bivins, Winfred "Blue" Lovett, Kenny "Wally" Kelley, and Richard Taylor. They are best known for their smooth soulful harmonies and romantic ballads.
The Manhattans achieved their greatest success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Kiss and Say Goodbye," "Shining Star," and "There's No Me Without You." They have released over 20 albums and continue to perform and record music today. The group has undergone several lineup changes over the years but has maintained their signature sound and popularity among R&B music fans.
