The Manhattans are an American R&B vocal group formed in 1962 in Jersey City, New Jersey. The original members were George "Smitty" Smith, Edward "Sonny" Bivins, Winfred "Blue" Lovett, Kenny "Wally" Kelley, and Richard Taylor. Over the years, the lineup changed, with Gerald Alston becoming the lead singer in the mid-1970s.


The Manhattans achieved mainstream success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Kiss and Say Goodbye," "Shining Star," and "There's No Me Without You." They were known for their smooth harmonies and romantic ballads, which appealed to a wide audience. The group's music has continued to be popular, with their songs being featured in movies, TV shows, and commercials.
