The Manhattans are an American R&B vocal group formed in 1962 in Jersey City, New Jersey. The group originally consisted of George "Smitty" Smith, Edward "Sonny" Bivins, Winfred "Blue" Lovett, Kenny "Wally" Kelley, and Richard Taylor. They are best known for their smooth soulful sound and romantic ballads, which helped them achieve mainstream success in the 1970s and 1980s.


The Manhattans' biggest hits include "Kiss and Say Goodbye," "Shining Star," and "There's No Me Without You." They were nominated for a Grammy Award in 1977 for their hit song "Kiss and Say Goodbye." The Manhattans have continued to perform and record music over the years, solidifying their status as influential figures in the R&B genre.
