The Manhattans are an American R&B vocal group formed in 1962 in Newark, New Jersey. The group's original members were George "Smitty" Smith, Edward "Sonny" Bivins, Winfred "Blue" Lovett, Kenny "Wally" Kelley, and Richard "Ricky" Taylor. They are best known for their smooth, soulful sound and romantic ballads.


The Manhattans achieved mainstream success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Kiss and Say Goodbye," "Shining Star," and "Just the Lonely Talking Again." They were nominated for a Grammy Award in 1980 for their hit single "Shining Star." The group's music has influenced and inspired many artists in the R&B and soul music genres. The Manhattans have maintained a loyal fan base over the years and continue to perform live shows.
