Artist Bio:
The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in Inkster, Michigan in 1960. They were signed to Motown's Tamla label and achieved major success in the early 1960s. The group's original lineup consisted of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, and Georgia Dobbins. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut single "Please Mr. Postman" in 1961, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making them the first Motown act to reach number one.

The Marvelettes went on to release a string of hits including "Playboy," "Beechwood 4-5789," and "Too Many Fish in the Sea." They were known for their sweet harmonies and catchy melodies, and their music was influential in the development of the Motown sound. The group disbanded in the 1970s after several lineup changes, but their legacy as one of the pioneering girl groups of the 1960s continues to be celebrated in the history of popular music.
