Artist Bio:
The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in Inkster, Michigan, in 1960. They were one of the most successful groups to come out of the Motown label during the 1960s. The original lineup consisted of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, and Georgia Dobbins. They are best known for their hit songs "Please Mr. Postman," which became Motown's first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and "Don't Mess with Bill."
The Marvelettes were known for their harmonious vocals and soulful sound. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005 and were also nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group disbanded in the late 1960s, but their music continues to be celebrated and remembered as an important part of the Motown sound.
