Artist Bio:
The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in Inkster, Michigan in 1960. They were best known for their 1961 hit single "Please Mr. Postman," which became Motown Records' first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group's original lineup consisted of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, and Georgia Dobbins.
The Marvelettes continued to achieve success throughout the 1960s with songs like "Don't Mess with Bill" and "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game." They were one of Motown's first successful acts and helped pave the way for future girl groups in the music industry. The group disbanded in the late 1960s after several lineup changes, but their music continues to be celebrated and remembered as a significant contribution to the Motown sound.
