The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. They were signed to Motown's Tamla label and achieved major success with their 1961 debut single, "Please Mr. Postman," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making them the first Motown act to reach number one on the pop chart. The song also became a million-selling hit and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The group continued to release hits throughout the 1960s, including "Playboy," "Beechwood 4-5789," and "Don't Mess with Bill." The Marvelettes were known for their smooth harmonies and soulful vocal performances, paving the way for future girl groups in the music industry. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004 in recognition of their impact on the music world.
