The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. They were signed to Motown's Tamla label and achieved major success in the 1960s. The group's original lineup consisted of Gladys Horton, Georgia Dobbins, Wanda Young, Katherine Anderson, and Juanita Cowart. They are best known for their hit single "Please Mr. Postman," which became Motown's first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.


The Marvelettes were one of the first successful acts produced by the iconic Motown Records. Their music was known for its blend of doo-wop, R&B, and pop, showcasing the group's harmonious vocals and catchy melodies. The Marvelettes were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004 in recognition of their contributions to the music industry.
