The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in the early 1960s. They were best known for their hit songs "Please Mr. Postman" and "Don't Mess with Bill." The group's original lineup consisted of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, and Georgia Dobbins. They were signed to Motown Records and had a string of successful singles in the 1960s.
The Marvelettes were the first major successful act of Motown Records after the Miracles and helped pave the way for future girl groups like The Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas. Their music combined elements of doo-wop, pop, and R&B, and they achieved significant commercial success during their time together. The Marvelettes were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004 in recognition of their impact on the music industry.
