Artist Bio:
The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. They were best known for their hits in the early 1960s, including "Please Mr. Postman," which became their biggest success, reaching the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group's original lineup consisted of Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, and Georgia Dobbins. Over the years, the group saw some changes in its members, but they continued to produce music and perform together.
The Marvelettes were signed to Motown Records and were one of the label's first successful acts. They were known for their catchy tunes and harmonious vocals that helped define the Motown sound. The group's influence on the music industry, especially in the realm of girl groups, is still felt today, and they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
