The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. They were signed to Motown's Tamla label and achieved major success with their debut single "Please Mr. Postman" in 1961, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group was composed of members Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Wanda Young, and Wyanetta Cowart.
The Marvelettes continued to release hits throughout the 1960s, including "Playboy," "Beechwood 4-5789," and "Don't Mess with Bill." They were known for their harmonious vocals and a unique blend of doo-wop, R&B, and pop music. The group disbanded in the 1970s, but their influence on the girl group genre and their contribution to the Motown sound continues to be celebrated by music fans and historians.
