The Meters is an American funk band formed in New Orleans in 1965. The original lineup consisted of Zigaboo Modeliste on drums, Art Neville on keyboards, Leo Nocentelli on guitar, and George Porter Jr. on bass. Known for their tight grooves and innovative musicianship, The Meters are considered one of the pioneers of funk music, influencing many artists across various genres.


The band released several albums in the 1970s, including "Struttin'" and "Rejuvenation," which are considered classics in the funk genre. Their music has been sampled by numerous hip-hop artists, further solidifying their influence on popular music. The Meters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, recognizing their contributions to the development of funk music.
