The Meters were an American funk band formed in New Orleans in 1965. The original lineup consisted of keyboardist and vocalist Art Neville, guitarist Leo Nocentelli, bassist George Porter Jr., and drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste. They are considered one of the pioneering groups of the funk genre, known for their tight grooves, intricate rhythms, and improvisational style.
The Meters gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Cissy Strut" and "Look-Ka Py Py." Their music has been highly influential, with their distinctive sound being sampled by numerous hip-hop and R&B artists. The band disbanded in the late 1970s but reunited for occasional performances in the following decades. They were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2018 for their album "Rejuvenation."
