The original members of the band were keyboardist and vocalist Art Neville, guitarist Leo Nocentelli, bassist George Porter Jr., and drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste. The Meters are known for their rhythmic grooves, incorporating elements of funk, blues, and soul into their music. They are considered pioneers of the funk genre and have been influential to many other musicians and bands.
The Meters released several albums in the late 1960s and 1970s, including "Look-Ka Py Py" and "Rejuvenation," which are considered classics of the funk genre. Their instrumental tracks, such as "Cissy Strut" and "Sophisticated Cissy," have become staples in the world of funk music.
