Artist Bio:
The Monkees were an American rock and pop band formed in Los Angeles in 1966. The group was comprised of members Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. The Monkees were initially brought together to star in their own television show, which followed the adventures of a fictional band trying to make it in the music industry. The show, also called "The Monkees," was a huge success and helped propel the band to fame.
The Monkees released a number of hit singles, including "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer," and "Daydream Believer." Despite facing criticism for not playing their own instruments on their early records, The Monkees went on to become one of the most popular bands of the 1960s. The group disbanded in 1971 but reunited for various tours and albums over the years. The Monkees were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
