The Motels are an American new wave band formed in 1971 in Berkeley, California. The band's lead vocalist, Martha Davis, has been the consistent member throughout its various line-up changes. The Motels achieved success in the early 1980s with hits such as "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer." Their music is known for its catchy melodies, Davis' distinctive vocals, and a blend of new wave and pop rock elements.


The Motels released several albums throughout the 1980s before disbanding in 1987. They later reunited in the 2000s and have continued to tour and release new music. The band's sound has been described as a mix of post-punk, new wave, and alternative rock, with Martha Davis' emotive vocals at the forefront.
