The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country rock band that was formed in Long Beach, California in 1966. The band's original members included Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, Ralph Barr, and John McEuen. They are known for their mix of country, folk, bluegrass, and rock music, which helped popularize the country rock genre in the 1960s and 1970s.


The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is best known for their 1972 album "Will the Circle be Unbroken," which featured collaborations with legendary country and bluegrass musicians such as Roy Acuff, Mother Maybelle Carter, and Earl Scruggs. The band has had numerous hits on the country and pop charts, including "Mr. Bojangles" and "Fishin' in the Dark." Over the years, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has undergone several lineup changes, but they continue to tour and record music to this day.
