The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country and folk-rock band that was formed in Long Beach, California in 1966. The band's original lineup consisted of Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and Bruce Kunkel, with several lineup changes over the years. They are known for their mix of country, folk, bluegrass, and rock music styles.


One of their most famous albums is "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," released in 1972, which featured collaborations with legendary country and bluegrass artists such as Roy Acuff, Doc Watson, and Mother Maybelle Carter. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has had several hits on the country charts, including "Mr. Bojangles" and "Fishin' in the Dark." They have won multiple Grammy Awards and continue to tour and record music to this day, with a career spanning over five decades.
