The band's original lineup consisted of Alan Brackett, Barbara "Sandi" Robison, John Merrill, Jim Voight, and Spencer Dryden. They gained popularity in the late 1960s for their blend of folk rock and psychedelic music.


The Peanut Butter Conspiracy released their debut album, "The Peanut Butter Conspiracy Is Spreading," in 1967. The album featured the hit single "It's a Happening Thing," which helped establish the band's reputation in the psychedelic rock scene.
