The Platters were an American vocal group formed in 1952. They were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era, known for their smooth harmonies and romantic ballads. The original members were Tony Williams, David Lynch, Alex Hodge, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor.


The Platters achieved great success with hits such as "Only You," "The Great Pretender," and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. The group went through several lineup changes over the years but continued to perform and record music, leaving a lasting impact on the music industry.
