The Platters were an American vocal group formed in 1952 in Los Angeles, California. They were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era, known for their smooth and soulful harmonies. The original members of the group were Tony Williams, David Lynch, Alex Hodge, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor.


The Platters rose to fame with hits such as "Only You (And You Alone)", "The Great Pretender", and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". They were one of the first African American groups to be accepted as a major chart group and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. The Platters' music continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by audiences around the world.
