Artist Bio:
The Platters were an American vocal group formed in 1952 in Los Angeles. They were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era, known for their smooth harmonies and romantic ballads. The original members were Tony Williams, David Lynch, Alex Hodge, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor.
The Platters achieved great success with hits such as "Only You," "The Great Pretender," and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." They were one of the first African American groups to be accepted by a white audience and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Despite several lineup changes over the years, The Platters continued to perform and record music, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of doo-wop and classic pop music.
