The original members were Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Alex Hodge, and Herb Reed. The group's sound was characterized by Williams' powerful lead vocals and the group's tight harmonies.


The Platters had a string of hits in the 1950s and early 1960s, including "Only You," "The Great Pretender," and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. The Platters' music continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by audiences around the world.
