Artist Bio:
The Ran-Dells were an American pop group formed in 1963. The group consisted of four high school students from New Jersey: Bill Carey, John Ray, and Bob Ronga, and their teacher, Lenny Lee Goldsmith. Their most famous song is "Martian Hop," released in 1963, which reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The novelty song featured lyrics about a dance craze performed by Martians and included sound effects to create an outer-space atmosphere.
Despite the success of "Martian Hop," The Ran-Dells did not achieve significant commercial success with their other songs. The group continued to perform together for a few years before disbanding. "Martian Hop" remains a popular song in the novelty and doo-wop genres and is often included in compilations of 1960s music.
