Artist Bio:
The Roots are an American hip hop band formed in 1987 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group consists of Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, along with other members including Kamal Gray, F. Knuckles, Captain Kirk Douglas, Damon Bryson, Mark Kelley, and James Poyser. Known for their live instrumentation and jazzy, eclectic approach to hip hop, The Roots have been highly acclaimed for their musicality and thought-provoking lyrics.


The Roots gained mainstream success with their breakthrough album "Things Fall Apart" in 1999, which featured the hit single "You Got Me" with Erykah Badu. They have since released numerous critically acclaimed albums, collaborated with a wide range of artists across different genres, and served as the house band for "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" since 2014. The Roots have won multiple Grammy Awards and are considered one of the most influential and innovative hip hop acts in the industry.
