The Shangri-Las were an American pop girl group formed in 1963 in Queens, New York. The group consisted of two sets of sisters, Mary and Betty Weiss and twins Margie and Mary Ann Ganser. They were known for their unique mix of teenage angst, melodramatic vocals, and edgy lyrics. The Shangri-Las rose to fame in the mid-1960s with hits such as "Leader of the Pack," "Remember (Walking in the Sand)," and "Give Him a Great Big Kiss."

Their music often featured themes of heartbreak, love, and rebellion, which resonated with audiences and helped them carve out a distinct identity in the crowded pop music landscape of the time. Despite their relatively short career, The Shangri-Las left a lasting impact on the music industry and are remembered as pioneers of the girl group genre.
