The Shirelles were an American girl group formed in 1957 in Passaic, New Jersey. They were one of the first and most successful girl groups of the 1960s, known for their sweet harmonies and catchy melodies. The original members of the group were Shirley Owens (later known as Shirley Alston Reeves), Doris Coley (later known as Doris Kenner-Jackson), Beverly Lee, and Addie "Micki" Harris.
The Shirelles are best known for their hit songs such as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "Soldier Boy," and "Mama Said." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and were also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004. The Shirelles' influence on popular music is undeniable, as they paved the way for other girl groups that followed in their footsteps.
