The Singing Nun, whose real name was Jeanne-Paule Marie Deckers, was a Belgian Dominican nun and singer-songwriter. Born in 1933, she joined the convent in 1959 and began recording music in the early 1960s. Her music, including "Dominique," was characterized by its simple melodies and uplifting lyrics. Despite her initial success, Sister Luc-Gabrielle faced challenges within the church due to her growing fame and disagreements over her artistic direction. She eventually left the convent in the late 1960s and continued to pursue a music career, but struggled with financial difficulties and depression. Sister Luc-Gabrielle tragically took her own life in 1985.
