The band's original lineup consisted of Sean Dickson on vocals and guitar, Jim McCulloch on guitar, Sushil K. Dade on bass, and Ross Sinclair on drums. They were known for blending elements of indie rock, psychedelic rock, and dance music in their sound.
The Soup Dragons achieved commercial success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits such as "I'm Free" and a cover of the Rolling Stones' "I'm Free." They released several albums during their career, including "This Is Our Art" and "Lovegod." The band eventually disbanded in 1995. The Soup Dragons were known for their eclectic sound and energetic live performances, and they left a lasting impact on the alternative rock scene of the time.
