Artist Bio:
The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul, and R&B group formed in Chicago in 1948. The group consisted of patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples and his children Cleotha, Pervis, Yvonne, and Mavis. They are best known for their socially conscious gospel-infused music that became a soundtrack for the civil rights movement in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Staple Singers achieved commercial success with hits like "Respect Yourself," "I'll Take You There," and "Let's Do It Again." Their music often featured Pops Staples' bluesy guitar playing and Mavis Staples' powerful and soulful vocals. The group's unique blend of gospel, soul, and R&B earned them a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. The Staple Singers' music continues to inspire and influence artists across genres to this day.
