The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul, and R&B singing group formed in 1948 by patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples. The group originally consisted of Pops Staples and his children: Cleotha, Pervis, and Mavis. The Staple Singers achieved commercial success in the 1970s with their socially conscious message and soulful sound. Their music often had a strong spiritual and political influence, blending gospel with soul and R&B elements.
The Staple Singers are best known for hits such as "I'll Take You There," "Respect Yourself," and "Let's Do It Again." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. The Staple Singers' music continues to be celebrated for its powerful messages and unique blend of genres.
