The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul, and R&B singing group formed in 1948 by patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples along with his children Cleotha, Pervis, Yvonne, and Mavis. They are best known for their socially conscious lyrics and close harmonies. The group achieved mainstream success in the 1970s with hits like "I'll Take You There" and "Respect Yourself". Their music often reflected the civil rights and anti-war movements of the time.
Throughout their career, The Staple Singers received numerous accolades including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
