The Supremes were an American female singing group that achieved fame in the 1960s. The group was originally founded as The Primettes in Detroit in 1959 and eventually became known as The Supremes after signing with Motown Records in 1961. The original lineup consisted of members Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard.
The Supremes quickly rose to fame with a series of hit singles, including "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," and "Stop! In the Name of Love." They became one of Motown's most successful acts and were the most commercially successful Motown act in the 1960s. The group's signature sound blended pop and soul music, and they were known for their elegant, sophisticated style and polished performances. Diana Ross eventually went on to pursue a successful solo career, and The Supremes disbanded in 1977. Despite the group's breakup, their music continues to be celebrated and their influence on popular music endures.
