Artist Bio:
The Supremes were an American female singing group that achieved fame in the 1960s. The group was formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1959, originally called The Primettes. The original lineup consisted of Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Barbara Martin, though Martin left the group in 1962. The group signed with Motown Records and went on to become one of the most successful vocal groups of the 1960s.
The Supremes released a string of hit singles including "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," and "Stop! In the Name of Love." They were known for their smooth harmonies, glamorous style, and polished performances. Diana Ross became the lead singer of the group and eventually embarked on a successful solo career, leading to the eventual disbandment of The Supremes in 1977. Despite lineup changes over the years, The Supremes left a lasting impact on the music industry and are considered one of the greatest girl groups of all time.
