The Sweet Inspirations were an American R&B girl group formed in the early 1960s. The group was best known for providing backing vocals for various artists, most notably Elvis Presley. The original members of the group included Cissy Houston, Lee Warwick, and Sylvia Shemwell. Cissy Houston, the mother of Whitney Houston, was a founding member of the group and also served as the group's leader.
The Sweet Inspirations achieved success with their own music as well, releasing albums and singles throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Some of their popular songs include "Sweet Inspiration" and "Why (Am I Treated So Bad)." The group continued to perform and record music into the 1990s, with various lineup changes over the years. Their soulful harmonies and powerful vocals solidified their reputation as one of the most influential girl groups in music history.
