The Sweet Inspirations were an American R&B girl group formed in the 1960s. The group was best known for providing backing vocals for various artists, most notably Elvis Presley. The original lineup consisted of Cissy Houston, Sylvia Shemwell, Estelle Brown, and Myrna Smith. Cissy Houston, who is the mother of Whitney Houston, was a prominent member of the group and also served as the group's leader.


The Sweet Inspirations gained recognition for their soulful harmonies and powerful vocal performances. They released several albums throughout their career, including "The Sweet Inspirations" and "Sweets for my Sweet." The group continued to perform and record music over the years, with various lineup changes, until their disbandment in the 1980s. Their contributions to the music industry, particularly as backing vocalists, have solidified their place in music history.
