The Temptations are an American vocal group known for their success in the Motown music scene. Formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, the group has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years. The founding members included Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, and Elbridge "Al" Bryant. Their lineup changed in the early 1960s, with David Ruffin replacing Bryant as the lead vocalist.


The Temptations achieved widespread success with hits such as "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone." Their music has been recognized with multiple Grammy Awards and inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The group's signature harmonies, stylish choreography, and soulful performances have solidified their place as one of the most iconic and influential groups in music history.
