The Tokens were an American doo-wop group formed in 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. Originally known as The Linc-Tones, the group changed their name to The Tokens in 1960. The group consisted of members Jay Siegel, Mitch Margo, Phil Margo, Hank Medress, and Neil Sedaka.
The Tokens are best known for their 1961 hit single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has since become a classic and has been featured in numerous films, commercials, and TV shows. The Tokens continued to record and perform throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with several more charting singles to their name. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
