The Tokens were an American doo-wop vocal group formed in 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. The original members were Hank Medress, Neil Sedaka, Eddie Rabkin, and Cynthia Zolitin. They are best known for their hit single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," released in 1961, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has since become a classic and has been covered by numerous artists.
The group continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with varying levels of success. In addition to their own music, The Tokens also worked as producers for other artists, including Tony Orlando and Dawn. The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
