The Tokens were an American doo-wop vocal group formed in 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. The original members were Neil Sedaka, Hank Medress, Eddie Rabkin, and Cynthia Zolotin. They are best known for their hit single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," released in 1961, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has since become a classic and is one of the most recognizable doo-wop songs of all time.
Throughout their career, The Tokens released several other singles, including "Tonight I Fell in Love" and "I Hear Trumpets Blow." They also worked as producers and backing vocalists for other artists. The group continued to perform and record music into the 21st century, with various lineup changes over the years. The Tokens were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, recognizing their contributions to the doo-wop genre.
