The Tokens were an American doo-wop group formed in 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. The group's original members were Hank Medress, Neil Sedaka, Eddie Rabkin, and Cynthia Zolotin. The Tokens are best known for their hit single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961. The song has since become a classic and has been covered by numerous artists.
The group continued to record music and perform live throughout the 1960s and 1970s, releasing several albums and singles. The Tokens also worked as producers, collaborating with other artists and groups in the music industry. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004. The Tokens' music continues to be celebrated for its harmonious vocals and timeless appeal in the doo-wop genre.
