The Turtles were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalists Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, guitarist Al Nichol, bassist Chip Douglas, and drummer Don Murray. They were known for their catchy pop-rock sound and harmonies, which helped them achieve commercial success during the mid-1960s.
Their most famous hit singles include "Happy Together," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967, as well as other popular songs like "Elenore" and "She'd Rather Be with Me." The Turtles disbanded in 1970, but Kaylan and Volman continued to perform under the name Flo & Eddie. The Turtles were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2009, recognizing their contributions to the music industry during the 1960s.
