The Turtles were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalists Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, guitarist Al Nichol, bassist Jim Pons, and drummer Don Murray. They achieved their biggest success in the mid-1960s with their hit singles "Happy Together," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967, and "Elenore." The Turtles were known for their melodic pop sound and catchy harmonies, drawing influence from folk rock and psychedelic music of the era.
The band disbanded in 1970, but various members have reunited over the years for tours and performances. The Turtles were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001 and continue to be celebrated for their contributions to the 1960s music scene.
