The Turtles were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California. The band was composed of vocalists Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, guitarist Al Nichol, bassist Jim Tucker, and drummer Don Murray. They are best known for their hit singles "Happy Together" and "Elenore," both of which reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Turtles achieved commercial success in the mid-1960s with their folk rock sound and catchy pop tunes. They released several albums throughout the 1960s and early 1970s before disbanding in 1970. The band reunited in the 1980s for tours and continued to perform together sporadically until the early 2010s. The Turtles were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2009 in recognition of their contributions to popular music.
